Practical trading simulations with Simulation Games as online or board game version
Our Simulation Games are the optimal method to apply theoretical knowledge about electricity and gas trading in practice and to understand it fundamentally. In practical trading simulations, the participants' trading and market skills are trained in a playful way by using technical terminology. The thrill of the game and the fun of success ensures that the new skills are firmly established.
YOUR BENEFITS
- Increase learning success through interactivity and independent exercises
- Strengthening of team building
- Practical relevance through competitive character
- Illustration of realistic scenarios and events
- Practical application of theoretical knowledge
The Online and Board Simulation Games can also be booked in combination with a previous training course, so that the fundamentals taught in the course can be consolidated via the Simulation Game.
ONLINE SIMULATION GAMES
Short-term trading
In this Simulation Game, the players assume the role of a gas-fired power plant operator who markets his power plant capacity on the day-ahead and then on the intraday market. At the same time, the operating behavior of the power plant must be taken into account. Various influencing factors, such as changing weather conditions, continuously provide the players with incentives to optimize their revenues.
Futures Trading
In this Simulation Game, the players place a coal-fired power plant on the futures market over a period of one year. They can offer the capacity for power generation as a base or peak product on the OTC market on a monthly basis. In addition, the players have the task of procuring sufficient coal and CO2 certificates for the energy supply. Price changes on the market as well as credit limits with trading partners add realistic aspects to the game.
Cross-Border Intraday
In the Cross-Border Intraday Simulation Game, the individual players have a power plant portfolio of different technologies in different countries. The goal is to market the portfolio as efficiently as possible on the intraday market. Via cross-border interconnectors between the European countries, price differentials between the bidding zones of the individual countries can be used if you have booked the corresponding line capacity.
The duration including the workshop is typically 3.5 hours. The workshop can be individually adapted and extended to the previous knowledge of the participants.
All Online Simulation Games can be conducted in German and English and can be conducted with a minimum of 5 and up to 15 participants.
BOARD SIMULATION GAMES
Spot Market Electricity
The simulation game Spot market Electricity simulates the trading situation on the spot market in the form of a board game. The players market a power plant park consisting of conventional and renewable plants. Based on the structure and meaning of the merit order, the participants learn to cover their load profile and to submit buy and sell bids. In addition, they learn how prices are formed on the various submarkets.
Futures Trading
In the board game version of the Simulation Game Futures Trading, the players take over the procurement of electricity for a given sales load profile. In doing so, they can make use of generation capacities in the form of a coal-fired power plant or electricity deliveries (forwards). In addition to electricity trading, the players learn how to manage a coal storage facility and have to react to price developments in various commodity markets.
Gas Trading
In the board game version of the gas trading simulation, the players manage a gas portfolio over four quarters. The goal of portfolio management is to fulfill long-term supply contracts and maintain balance while optimizing profits. The participants learn to evaluate flexibilities economically. Furthermore, adequate reactions to unforeseen events on the market are trained and their price influences are discussed.
The duration including the workshop is typically one day. The workshop can be variably adapted to the previous knowledge of the participants and individually extended.
All Board Simulation Games can be conducted in German and English and can be conducted with a minimum of 5 and up to 18 participants.
